MY STORY

Suzanne Schneider
Owner/Director

Welcome to my website! I’m Suzanne, and I’m thrilled you’ve stopped by. If you’re here, chances are you’re concerned about your child’s education or eager to explore our services.

I wear many hats in the education field—I’m a Literacy and Dyslexia Specialist, Academic Tester, Advocate, Tutor, and Parent and Teacher Trainer. My educational journey began at Boston University, where I earned my degree in elementary education in 1993. Following that, I pursued my Master’s Degree at Hunter College, specializing in Learning Disorders.

My career took off teaching a small special education class in an East Harlem Public School. From there, I transitioned to becoming an elementary education teacher at Purchase Elementary School in Westchester County, NY. Over the years, I’ve served as a reading specialist, resource room teacher, and a special education integrated co-teacher (ICT). Drawing from over 12 years of experience in the public school system, I bring a wealth of knowledge to support families effectively.

Beyond my work in public education, I’ve been tutoring and advocating for families since 1993. My passion for working with students who learn differently stems from my own late diagnosis of a learning disability in high school and from witnessing my husband’s challenging early educational experiences as a child with Dyslexia in the 1980s.

In addition to operating Westchester Educational Services—a private practice offering tutoring, advocacy, and literacy assessments—I also serve as a literacy consultant for several Westchester public schools. Alongside supporting individual children and families, I’m dedicated to training teachers on incorporating multi-sensory instruction, executive function training, dyslexia awareness, phonological awareness training, structured literacy approaches, and the science of reading into all aspects of the curriculum.

My specialized trainings include, but are not limited to, various Orton-Gillingham approaches, Lindamood-Bell, and the Writing Revolution/Hochman Method for Writing. With over 25 years of experience, I’ve seamlessly integrated these approaches into my instruction.

My commitment to supporting families with dyslexia and other learning differences led me to initiate the Westchester County Decoding Dyslexia Family Support group and take on a leadership role with Decoding Dyslexia NY—a grassroots organization providing free support to dyslexia-affected families in New York.

I am truly passionate about the opportunities I have working with students, families, tutors, public school teachers, and administrators, and I look forward to the possibility of supporting you and your child on their educational journey.
